April 1, 2020 Announcement: Preschool closed April 1-30, 2020
We thank you for your patience and understanding during these troubled times. Every day,new initiatives with new provisions are set by the different levels of government and agencies -(Federal, Provincial, City, and Vancouver Coastal Health, and Community Licensing) to guide us through our next steps as citizens, owners of business, health workers and not-for-profit agencies to deal with COVID -19 pandemic. South Vancouver Family Place and Kids Care are trying to understand how we fit in as an essential service that support families with children who work in industries that need to stay open. People such as and not limited to: Store attendants, Bus Drivers, Police Officers, Doctors, Nurses and YOU.
In order for us to re-open our preschool centre , we will be answering the following tough questions:
How do we insure the health and safety of your child and our staff?
How will we be shifting our services to insure we comply with our first objective and comply with the objectives set out by the health minister, Ministry of Children and Families and our
licensing governing body.
How many hours will we be offering our service?
And, how many children will we be able to safely service on a daily basis given the “social distancing “ rule set and given the space we operate.
The health ministry has stated on record that children are the least affected by the COVID19 and this is why childcare services remain open. They have published measures we need to take to ensure the safety of the child and staff and we will be researching and adopting these methods. This may be our new normal. We are taking every step to ensure the health and safety of all our children, families and staff who are our upmost importance and priority.
At this time, we do not feel that we have the adequate plan and provisions in place to re-open in April. We will need more time to plan out a strategy that make sense for all. Our children in our care mean everything to us and we are looking out for the students as well as their families and what is best for all of us as a community.
During the month of April, Kids Care staff will be at the school to work on planning and implementing curriculum changes and classroom rearranging to be able to provide the safest environment for your children, the families and staff.
