Isn't it great to see the hours of day light increasing and the lovely colors of Spring finally here? It is also exciting to see the Kids Care Preschool renovation almost complete. We are now selecting new window coverings for our new windows and also doing some minor interior painting. Thanks to all the parents and our staff for their patience during this long renovation. The City has already started discussions with Family Place about our "makeover" which will likely occur at the end of summer. Again it will be a replacement of the panelling on the exterior of our building as well as some windows and some porch repair or replacement. Here we go again!
Some of our volunteer parents who attend our Fraserland's Family Drop-in are once again organizing a children's clothing sale. This will be the third and all proceeds go towards the Family Drop-in. The big day is Thursday May 9th from 10-12:30, so mark this date on your calendar and thanks for your support.
We have restarted our Punjabi Grandparent and Grandchild Literacy program at Moberly and we have had a great turn-out to this program. Grandparents have an opportunity to share, learn and enjoy being grandparents while their grandchildren enjoy an early learning experience.
At Trudeau Elementary we have restarted our Greenlight to Kindergarten for children entering kindergarten in September. This program supports the smooth tansition of these children into the kindergarten program.
South Vancouver Family Place is busy as usual and there are lots of parent education and support programs going on as well as the family drop-in. It is so nice to open the play yard again and offer opportunities for outdoor play and exploration for the children.
We are in partnership with Pacific Immigrant Support Services and one of their outreach staff is housed at Family Place. This comprehensive settlement program provides support to immigrants who are facing multiple barriers. Zarmina has an office at Family Place and can provide one to one support to an immigrant, can support them with long term settlement counselling' accompany people to appointments ,and provide important connections to community resources.
