Family Resource Program Assistant - part-time

The South Vancouver Family Place has been providing services to families with young children for many years in South Vancouver. The main service continues to be a family drop-in program which is offered at 3 different sites in the community.

The central location on Nanaimo Street is currently looking to fill a part-time position for a drop-in assistant. This position is ideal for a candidate who may have a mix of both educational and personal experiences in family support and early years training. The hours of employment are during the day and on weekdays. There are also a variety of training opportunities for the successful candidate.

Key responsibilities:
The drop-in assistant will work closely with the Family Place co-coordinator in providing a warm and stimulating environment for parents, caregivers and children.

• Promote, support and involve parents and caregivers in a healthy, safe environment.
• Develop and implement a variety of individual and group activities for program participants
• Supporting parents and caregivers in parenting issues and providing information and referral as needed.

Qualifications:

• Minimum one year experience working with families and or young children in a childcare or family resource program setting
• Knowledge of community resources
• Some training in family support, counseling or early childhood education (certificate not necessary)
• Ability to work in a somewhat chaotic environment (drop-in program)
• Cross-cultural experience/understanding
• Second language an asset/fluency in English required.
• Some experience leading circle time activities for families or children

Position details:
Part-time permanent position. 20 hours per week depending on availability of candidate. Days of week: choice of Tuesday to Fridays.

Remuneration: $16.00 starting pay per hour plus 4% vacation in lieu of benefits.
